Pendleside Medical Practice

Home Visit Requests

If you are housebound or unable to attend the surgery due to a medical condition, you may request a home visit. To do so, please contact the surgery at 08:00AM, or as early as possible on the day, so that we can allocate a telephone triage slot. A GP will then call you to assess your situation and determine whether a home visit is clinically appropriate.

Please note that “housebound” refers specifically to patients who are physically unable to leave their home due to illness or disability. We have had instances where clinicians attend home visits only to find that patients are out with family or attending other appointments. While we fully support and encourage social engagement and independence, our resources are limited, and we are unable to offer home visits to patients who are able to attend the surgery independently.

We also wish to highlight the benefits of remaining active and independent for as long as possible. Being placed on the housebound list can sometimes have a negative impact on a patient’s confidence and mental wellbeing. As a practice, we have observed that being placed on the housebound list can sometimes lead to a decline in motivation, with some patients feeling discouraged or becoming less inclined to leave their home even when they are able to do so. While we recognise that some patients are genuinely housebound, we strongly encourage individuals to maintain their independence and mobility wherever possible. Remaining active and attending the surgery, when feasible, can have significant benefits for both physical health and emotional wellbeing.
